In our opinion, the Baby Lock Presto 2 is the best sewing machine someone can buy for under $800.  In order to get a sewing machine with 8.5 inches of throat space and a truly automatic needle threader, you typically must spend nearly double what you pay for the Presto 2.  In that sense, it is a sewing machine with incredible value.

The Presto 2 has become a staff favorite at The Sewing Machine Shop because it is easy to use and offers an extremely smooth sewing experience. Customers love it.  It’s a great option for a person who seeks a quality sewing machine for beginners, and it’s also fantastic for an experienced sewist upgrading their old machine. The increased throat space is one of those universally beloved features that people just don’t regret because it makes sewing a lot more fun. Same goes for the automatic needle threader, automatic thread trimmer, LED lighting, and intuitive threading path– these are features integrated into the machine that you use every time you sit down to sew.

+ Generally speaking, the more throat space, the happier a sewist will be.  As long as price is not an issue, nobody regrets getting a machine with 8.5″ throat instead of 6.5″. It’s one of those features that you use every time you sit down to sew.
+ The feel of this machine is incredibly smooth due to the larger footprint. Sewists who come from an older machine comment on how smooth the machine sews every time.
+ The Presto II has a user-friendly design that is easy to thread: automatic needle threader, drop-in bobbin, clear view of the take-up lever, etc.  Threading the machine properly is half the battle, so we value ease of threading a lot.

If you like the sound of a sewing machine that is user friendly with a truly automatic needle threader and intuitive design, but $799 is more than you want to spend, consider the the Baby Lock Jubilant at $599.  It’s a little bit smaller than the Presto 2, but considerably less expensive and you still get an intuitive, easy to use design and truly automatic needle threader.
