Garment Sewing Techniques Series
Take just one session or all 3. Each session will $40 and they are 2 hours long each session. We will be making samples. Maximum class size is 5: minimum of 2 participants to hold a class.
4/6 Zippers
Will cover different zipper insertions
- Center Back zipper
- Lapped zipper
- Invisible zipper
Tools and material required:
- Pen and paper write notes with
- A sewing machine is in working condition
- Narrow zipper foot and invisible zipper foot
- Half yard of cotton or cotton blend material (can be purchased at JoAnn)
- 1/4 yard of fusible knit interfacing (can be purchased at JoAnn)
- Two 7 to 9 inches closed bottom garment sewing zipper
- One 9 inches invisible zipper
- Seam Ripper
- 50 wt. poly threads
- Thread trimmer
- Marking tools
5/2, Elastic Waistband
Will cover a non-traditional elastic insertion for waistband to create a seamless and professional looking garment
Tools and material required:
- Pen and paper to write notes with
- A sewing machine is in working condition
- 1/2 yard of flannel or medium knit materials (can be purchased at JoAnn)
- 1 yard of 1 inch or 1.5 inch wide elastic (can be purchased at JoAnn)
- 1 yard of 1 inch grosgrain ribbon (can be purchased at JoAnn)
- Size 14/90 Ball point needle
- Seam ripper
- 50 wt. poly threads
- Thread trimmer
- Marking tools
6/1, Seam Finishes
All about raw seam finishing. Will compare overlock stitches in sewing machines vs. sergers, and will discuss what stitches would be appropriate to use for light / medium / heavy weight materials.
Tools and material required:
- Pen and paper to write notes with
- A sewing machines is in working condition
- Participants to bring a 1/4 yard of each type of materials ( light/ medium/ heavy weight) to class and we will make samples
- Size 80/12 or 90/14 microtex needle
- Seam ripper
- 50 wt. poly threads
- Thread Trimmer
- Marking Tools
