The Sewing Machine Shop vs Amazon

Anytime you want you can go online, buy a sewing machine for $200 from Amazon, and have it delivered to your front door the next day. With that type of convenience, why bother shopping with us?
Tool vs Toy
First, it is important to understand that there are two types of sewing machines: there are TOOLS and there are TOYS.
Many of Amazon’s “best sellers” do not meet The Sewing Machine Shop’s standard for quality. Owner Dan Schoenberg explains in the video below:
Tool vs Toy: Two Types of Sewing Machines
Dan is not only the owner, he is also the lead technician. He wants to minimize the amount of difficult repairs that come across his work bench, so he doesn’t sell toy machines susceptible to frequent problems. He has an engineering background, and he only buys machines that he knows to be well made and reliable– machines that will not be coming across his bench every couple months for repair.
Toasters & Cars
Many simple household appliances can be purchased on Amazon, and you can bet that they will work with out any problems. I purchased a new toaster on Amazon a couple of weeks ago. It arrived at my front door the next day, and it works like a charm: the bread goes inside, I press the level to lower it, and a couple minutes later it pops out toasted.
Sewing machines are not like toasters. Sewing machines are more like cars. They are complicated machines with many gears, parts, and electronic components.
Would you buy a car online? Or would you go down to a dealership, take the car for a test drive, and make sure your dealership is able to assist you if you experience any difficulties?
Warranty & Support
If you buy with Amazon, then your warranty is with Amazon, who does not employ any sewing machine mechanics. If your Amazon-bought machine experiences problems, you ship your machine back to Amazon, then Amazon ships it back to the manufacturer. Hopefully it gets repaired and returned to you in a timely fashion.
If you buy with us, then your warranty is with us. With any problem you experience with your machine, you can call us and we will solve the problem. If the machine needs parts, we order and install the parts for you. If it needs repair, one of our full-time technicians will repair it in our shop.
We also provide the support of an extremely knowledgeable staff, all of whom are willing and able to answer any questions you may have. When you take your machine home, we recommend you thread it up and sew on it a little bit, all while taking notes of any questions that might pop up. After a couple days, call us to set up a time when you can come in and sit down with us one-on-one.
Below are some entry level sewing machines
that meet our standard of quality:
